Stepping on the sandy land of Kappad Beach evokes mental faculties of the tourist who try to imagine how would it have looked to watch Vasco Da Gama land centuries ago on this very land, in the May of 1498, with 170 men in three vessels. The stunning beach is adorned with a host of rocks protruding into the sea. The tourists find it as a refreshing haven from the hectic day-to-day life.

Kappad offers a complex network of lakes, lagoons, canals and fresh water rivers alongside. Traveling on the backwaters provide an unforgettable experience to the tourists, having them to watch the enchanting waterways outlined on the banks with lush green rice fields sprawling over into the distance and coconut groves revealing an occasional temple or church.

A houseboat ride down the backwaters offers visitors a close look at the simple pastoral village life, relaxing their mind watching fishermen launching their cockleshell boats, women catching fishes with their feet, cattle grazing aimlessly and small shallow ponds embellished with blooming white lotuses. The area also boasts of a natural fresh water lake called Pookot Lake, which is beautifully engulfed by trees on all sides.
