The backwaters in Kerala are a world of serenity and wonderment. The coastal regions of Kerala have a network of waterways, inlets from the sea, estuaries of over forty rivers, lakes and natural canals connecting coastal towns. This interlinked body of waterways is known as the backwaters in Kerala. Over 900 Km of the Kerala backwaters are navigable and have been used for centuries by the local people for transportation. You can travel on these waterways on a traditional houseboat and enjoy the scenic beauty of the backwaters in Kerala, while on Kerala tours with Kerala Backwaters.

Alappuzha Backwaters

Known as the “Venice of the East”, the exotic district of Kerala is endowed with an enchanting blend of the tranquil backwaters alongside the magnificent Arabian Sea. Tourists worldwide throng Alappuzha for a spellbinding treat of senses while sailing in kettuvallom (houseboat) on crisscrossing network of lakes, lagoons, canals and fresh water rivers with a beautiful beach in the neighborhood.

Kuttanad Backwaters
The place is also known as the “Rice Bowl of Kerala” because of the rich harvest of rice in the area made possible by the distinguished climate supportive of the rice plantations and of course the underwater farming. The scenic countryside here is a rich crop of bananas, yams and cassava.

Kottayam Backwaters

Though climatic conditions of Kottayam are essentially moderate and pleasant, the most pleasant to visit is between October to March. The temperature ranges from maximum of 34-35 degree Celsius to minimum of 19-20 degree Celsius in December. The climate is particularly hot and humid during summers and rainfall is torrential during June to September.

Kollam Backwaters
The Kollam Backwaters is an exceedingly beautiful tourism spot in the lap of the renowned Ashtamudi Lake, making it the gateway to the magnificent backwaters of Kerala. The beautiful lake stretches across 30 per cent of the entire Kollam, rendering a must-not-miss houseboat ride from Kollam to Alappuzha extremely delightful...

Other Backwaters

Kumarakom lies in the hinterland between Kochi and Kottayam. The nearest airport is at Kochi and there are railway station at both Kochi and Kottayam.
