The
Kollam Backwaters is an exceedingly
beautiful tourism spot in the lap
of the renowned Ashtamudi Lake, making
it the gateway to the magnificent
backwaters of Kerala. The beautiful
lake stretches across 30 per cent
of the entire Kollam, rendering a
must-not-miss houseboat ride from
Kollam to Alappuzha extremely delightful
and to the satisfaction of the tourist,
while gliding across the lake teeming
with lotuses and water lilies and
aquatic birds making sweet noises
on the banks. The boat ride is the
longest backwater tour offered by
Kerala across all cruises.
Kollam
district, the oldest ports on
the Malabar Coast, is also famous
for its marine and cashew industries.
The port has a 144 feet tall
Thangassery Light House built
in 1902, which attracts a lot
of tourist attention. The Mata
Amithanandamayi Ashram at Vallikavu
in Kollam is an International
pilgrimage destination, known
for its educational and medical
institutes.

trading point, the place is
also a tourism attraction for
its wide collection of temples,
churches and mosques. Ananda
Valleeswaram Temple, Pullichira
Church established in 1700 AD,
Mahatma Gandhi Beach, Park at
Kochupilamoodu, Thirumullavaram
beach and Ashramam picnic village
are other places of tourism
value.
