Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is often called as Vembanad Bird Sanctuary , situated at Kumarakom in Kerala. This bird sanctuary is located on the bank of Vembanad lake. The bird sanctuary is paradise for the bird watchers who visits the sanctuary every year , looking for migratory birds.

The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is home to several indigenous bird species and migratory birds also comes here frequently. The best time to visit the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is between the months of June and August. Between November to March is also the best time to spot the migratory birds, most visible in this durations. Some Bird watchers are also considered these months the best time, because large number of migratory birds flock in huge numbers to reside in the sanctuary for a while. Apart from being the bird sanctuary, the landscape replete with mangrove forest, green paddy fields and coconut groves.

The blooming lilies in the park is also the huge attractions for the visitors. Some of the birds are found in the park such as the resident bird species of the sanctuary include the Waterfowl, Cuckoo, Owls, Egrets, Herons Water Ducks, Parrots, Teal, Larks, Flycatchers and the Wood Beetle. On the other hand, the Siberian Cranes are the most notable amongst all the migratory birds like Siberian stork, egret, darter, heron and teal, Parrots, flycatchers, wood beetle, larks etc, in this bird sanctuary
