 Muthanga Wildlife

Situated in the Wayanad District of Kerala, Muthunga Wildlife Sanctuary (or Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary) lays close to Bandipur Tiger Reserve and Mudumalai sanctuary. It is one of the finest known elephant habitats in peninsular India and has been included in the Project Elephant scheme. Home to the tiny Mouse Deer, the forest also houses Wild Boar, Sloth Bear, Malabar Giant Squirrel, Bonnet Macaques, Langurs, Gaur, Sambar, Cheetal, Four Horned Antelopes and Black Bucks in plenty.

The soil of the area is fertile and moist leading to discontinuous forestation and prevalent coffee, tea, cardamom, pepper and rubber plantations around the vicinity. Mist capped mountains and breathtaking landscapes in and around the sanctuary are solace to the eyes and mind. The sanctuary nestles in the lush rain forests with greenery everywhere that you glance.

At Muthanga National Park, tourists follow the nature trails on the back of majestic tamed elephants to discover the different contours of nature and teeming life forms in the lap of a beautiful green world. Tourists enjoy a nice time observing tiny colorful butterflies fluttering on sweet flowers and pretty shrubs. The park enjoys tropical climatic conditions with temperature ranging in between 36 degree Celsius to 20 degree Celsius. The best time to visit the sanctuary is between June to October.
