Neyyar Wildlife

Nestled in the southeast corner of the Western Ghats, the Neyyar sanctuary is the drainage basin of the Neyyar river and its tributaries – Mullayar and Kallar. Neyyar wildlife reservoir holds attention of tourists for housing a crocodile-rearing center, dear farm and an exciting lion safari park. The sanctuary has a very rich lush green flora cover that renders the sanctuary an ideal gene pool and breeds a stunning variety of fauna and aero fauna. The wild animals that can be spotted in the sanctuary are Tiger, Leopard, barking deer, Bonnet Macaque, Sambar, Elephants, Gaur, Sloth Bear, Nilgiri Tahr, Jungle Cat, Wild Boar, Nilgiri and Langur.

The Neyyar reservoir stretches across 9.06 kilometers and easily navigable because of its proximity to the airport and the railhead. The exemplary variety of vegetation includes tropical wet evergreens and vast grasslands. The famous 1890 metres high Agasthyakoodam hill lies in the vicinity of the wealthy sanctuary.

The wild life sanctuary is particularly blooming with its the best between October to March.The climatic conditions are essentially tropical. The hot summers here record a modest maximum temperature of 35 degree Celsius, while the winters may claim the lowest of 16 degree Celsius.
